Best Label Makers for Team Parents

Label the goggles, the cap, the towel, the water bottle and the bin it all travels in, or budget for replacements. The trick is the tape, not the printer: a laminated label survives a swim bag, a paper one does not. These picks were checked on vendor pages on Oct 19, 2026. Where a maker would not back a waterproof claim, we say so, and we included the pre-printed option many parents end up preferring.

How we picked: real meet/organizer jobs first. Can you read it, carry it, or use it with wet or busy hands? We checked vendor or retailer pages on Oct 19, 2026 for every spec and price below. Anything we could not verify, we left out.

1

Brother P-touch CUBE Plus PT-P710BT

Best for families labeling everything, all season

Prices checked Oct 19, 2026: $114.99 at Brother

The do-everything pick. Prints wide 24 mm labels big enough for bins and towels, cuts automatically, charges over USB, and uses Brother TZe laminated tape, the tape family Brother sells as water-, abrasion- and chemical-resistant. You design on your phone. The real cost is refills, so check TZe prices before you fall in love with wide tape.

2

Brother P-touch CUBE PT-P300BT

Best for phone-first parents who want small and simple

Prices checked Oct 19, 2026: $69.99 at Brother

Same laminated TZe family in a smaller, cheaper body. Twelve-millimetre tape is right for goggles cases, bottles and cap straps. Manual cutter and AAA-or-plug power are the trade-offs. If your labels are names, not banners, this does the job for less.

3

Brother PT-D220

Best for anyone who does not want an app

Prices checked Oct 19, 2026: $44.99 at Brother

Type, print, done. No pairing, no app updates, no hunting for the one phone with the label app installed. It still uses water-resistant TZe laminated tape, which is the part that matters in a swim bag. Best value here for a team bin, a classroom, or a lost-and-found station.

4

DYMO LetraTag 200B

Best for light home labeling on a budget

Prices checked Oct 19, 2026: $36.99–$41.99 at Office Depot / Staples

Cheap, small, and fine for dry shelves, folders and toy bins. Be clear-eyed: LetraTag tape is not Brother's laminated TZe, and we found no vendor waterproof claim for it, so do not buy it expecting labels to survive a season of chlorine and laundry. For wet gear, pick a TZe model or pre-printed waterproof labels below.

5

Mabel's Labels Waterproof Name Labels

Best for parents who would rather stick than print

Prices checked Oct 19, 2026: $21.50–$23.50 per pack at Mabel's Labels

Not a label maker: the alternative that beats one for many families. Order with your swimmer's name, stick them on gear, and skip tape refills entirely. The vendor sells them as waterproof and dishwasher- and laundry-safe. Best for one or two kids. A team labeling thirty loaner items still wants a maker.

What to skip

Skip iron-on promises for swim gear unless the label maker page says the tape is fabric tape. Standard laminated tape belongs on hard, smooth surfaces. And price the refills first: a cheap printer on expensive tape is not cheap.

FAQ

Do labels stay on in chlorine?

Laminated labels hold up far better than paper or basic plastic tape. Brother describes its TZe laminated tape as water-resistant, and Mabel's Labels sells its name labels as waterproof and laundry-safe. No label is forever. Check edges after a few meets and replace labels that start to lift.

Label maker or pre-printed name labels: which is better?

A label maker wins if you label for multiple kids, teams, bins and seasons, and want a label right now. Pre-printed labels win if you want one name, no hardware, and no refill tape to store. Many families use pre-printed labels on a swimmer's own gear and a label maker for team gear.

What does waterproof tape actually mean here?

On this page it means the vendor says so. Brother calls TZe tape water-resistant and laminated; we repeat that wording on purpose. We did not find a waterproof claim from DYMO for LetraTag tape, so we do not make one. Use it for dry labeling.

What should team parents label before a meet?

Goggles and their case, cap, towel, water bottle, fins, kickboard, parka, and the bag or bin itself. Put the name where a volunteer sorting lost-and-found can see it without unfolding everything.

Why do labels keep falling off swim gear?

Wet, curved, textured or silicone surfaces are hard to stick to. Clean and dry the spot, press the full label down, and let it set before it goes in the bag. For fabric, use a fabric-specific label or sew-in tag instead of forcing a hard-surface label to do a fabric job.
